Breathing in Confinement: Samaneh Asghari, a children’s rights activist, has been sentenced to one year of imprisonment by Branch 29 of the Revolutionary Court, taking into account the days she spent in detention.
According to “Breathing in Confinement”, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, Branch 29 of the Revolutionary Court, headed by Judge Ali Mazloum, sentenced Samaneh Asghari, a children’s rights activist and a former member of the Board of Directors of the Association for the Protection of Children’s Rights, to one year in prison.
On Thursday, September 14, the security forces raided Samaneh Asghari’s home, after searching the house, they arrested her and transferred her to the 209 security ward of Evin prison. After the interrogation, she was transferred to Qarchak prison in Varamin, and on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, she was temporarily released from prison on a bail of one billion tomans awaiting the completion of the proceedings.
Samaneh Asghari had previously been arrested during the nationwide protests in 2022 at her hme by six plainclothes officers and a female officer who identified themselves as water department officials. In March of this year, she was sentenced to 18 years and three months in prison by Judge Salavati, the head of Branch 15 of the Revolutionary Court in Tehran, and was released from Qarchak Prison in Varamin in May of this year.
She is also a graduate in industrial engineering from Kharazmi University in Tehran and an advocate for women’s rights.”
