To serve his sentence, Sina Zahiri arrested and transferred to Evin Prison

Breathing in Confinement: Sina Zahiri, a former political prisoner had been arrested for the second time in March 2018 and released on bail awaiting the trial to be finalized. He was arrested yesterday, November 15, 2020, after his 5-year prison sentence was upheld by the Revolutionary Court of Appeal.  After appearing in the Evin Prison’s Sentence Implementation Court, he was arrested and transferred to quarantine ward 4 in Evin.

 

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, Sina Zahiri, a former political prisoner, had been arrested in March 2018 and was sentenced to five years in prison on charge of “having links with the Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization.” On November 15, to serve his sentence, he was arrested again by the Sentence Implementation Unit of Evin prison.

 

In addition, in recent days, Mr. Hamid Sharif, Sina Zahiri’s co-defendant, has also been transferred to Evin Prison to serve his sentence. Mr. Sharif has been sentenced to one year in prison.

 

It is noteworthy that Sina Zahiri had been arrested earlier in 2010 and after spending 5 months in solitary confinement in Ward 209, he was transferred to Ward 350 of Evin Prison and subsequently, was deported to Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj. He was sentenced to 2 years in prison by Branch 15 of the Revolutionary Court, headed by Judge Salavati. Sina Zahiri was released from Rajai Shahr prison in June 2012 after completing his imprisonment.
