Tumaj Salehi, a Protester Rapper Was Sentenced to Execution

Breathing in Confinement: On Wednesday, April 23, 2024, Tumaj Salehi, a protester rapper, was sentenced to the death by Branch One of the Revolutionary Court in Isfahan on charges of corruption on earth.

According to “Breathing in Confinement,” the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, on Wednesday, April 24, Tumaj Salehi, the protester rapper was sentenced to execution.

Amir Reisian, one of Tumaj Salehi’s lawyers, in an interview with Shargh Network stated: Branch One of the Revolutionary Court in Isfahan, in an unprecedented act, did not comply with the Supreme Court’s ruling on Tumaj Salehi’s case in 2022, and by interpreting this ruling as “advisory” and emphasizing the court’s independence, sentenced Tumaj Salehi to execution on charges of corruption on earth. Reisian further stated: The Isfahan Revolutionary Court considered the charges of rebellion, causing social unrest, propaganda against the regime, and incitement to riot as examples of corruption on earth under the Article 286 of the Penal Code and, emphasizing the extent of corruption, issued a death sentence for Mr. Salehi. This is despite the fact that previously, the same branch had not confirmed the extent of corruption on earth. Even more strangely, the preliminary court also considered supplementary punishment for Tumaj Salehi, sentencing him to 2 years of travel ban, 2 years of ban on artistic activities, and participation in behavioural management and skill classes at the Isfahan Judiciary Knowledge Center.

This court also deemed the suspended sentence of Tumaj Salehi executable.

Tumaj Salehi had previously been sentenced by the same branch of the court to 6 years and 3 months of imprisonment for corruption on earth and had been acquitted on charges of insulting Khomeini, insulting Khamenei, and communicating with hostile countries. As supplementary punishments, he had been sentenced to a travel ban.

Tumaj Salehi, on Saturday, November 18, 2023, after enduring one year and 21 days of imprisonment, 252 days of which in solitary confinement, and after the reversal of his 6 years and 3 months of imprisonment sentence by Branch 39 of the Supreme Court, was released from Isfahan Central Prison upon posting bail and pending the completion of investigation and trial process.

Mr Salehi was arrested on Sunday, October 30, 2022, during the nationwide uprising in Gerdbehesht village, Gandoman district of Borujen city, in Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari province.

Tumaj Salehi was violently arrested for the second time on November 30, 2023, by armed security forces in Babol city, while being severe beaten. He then was transferred to the detention centre in Isfahan and is currently imprisoned in this city.
