According to Breathing in Confinement, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, the Court of Appeals in Tehran upheld the sentence of Marjan Ishaqi, a political science student at the University of Tehran and one of the detainees of the November 2019 uprisings.<\/p>\n
Marjan Ishaqi was sentenced to 4 years suspended imprisonment as well as 1 year in prison on a charge of conspiracy against national security. And the sentence was recently upheld by Tehran’s Court of Appeals. The court referred to her presence in the student rallies of November 2019 as evidence.<\/p>\n
Marjan Ishaqi was previously sentenced by Branch 15 of the Revolutionary Court of Tehran, headed by Judge Abolghasem Salavati, to one year in prison and four years suspended imprisonment.<\/p>\n
On November 17, 2019, while leaving the university, Ms. Ishaqi was arrested by IRGC intelligence agents for attending a student rally at the University of Tehran. She then was transferred to the IRGC Intelligence Detention Center, at Evin Prison’s Ward 2-A.
