Mohammad Khani was arrested by security forces of Sarallah Corps affiliated to the Ministry of Intelligence on October 1, 2020, and after 41 days, he was released on bail of 500 million Tomans awaiting the court\u2019s decision.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>According to Breathing in Confinement, the news organ of the Prisoners&#8217; Rights League in Iran, the 4-year sentence of Mohammad Khani, an author, researcher, and doctoral student at Allameh University, was upheld by the Court of Appeals.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This morning, July 3<sup>rd<\/sup>, Mohammad Khani received a text message, saying that his sentence was upheld by the court of appeal and that his case was referred to the Judgment Enforcement Unit of Evin Court. Mr. Khani had not been formally notified of the appeal court&#8217;s decision,&#8221; said an informed source to the reporter of &#8220;Breathing in Confinement&#8221;. The source added: &#8220;Mustafa Nili, Mr. Khani&#8217;s lawyer, also after going to the court, found out that the verdict had been upheld and that the case had been referred to the Judgment Enforcement Branch of the Evin Court.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It should be noted that the preliminary verdict had been notified to Mr. Khani\u2019s lawyer on December 27, 2020, according to which Mohammad Khani was sentenced to four years in prison, two years of ban from social and political activities and six months of educating the mentally handicapped children, as well as confiscation of his personal belongings for two years.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>According to the verdict issued by Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court presided over by Judge Afshari, Mr. Khani was sentenced to three years and six months in prison on charge of &#8220;conspiracy to commit a crime against the national security,&#8221; and 6 months in prison, two years of ban from social and political activities as well as six months of educating the mentally disabled children on charge of &#8220;propaganda activities against the regime.&#8221; In addition, Mr. Kahni\u2019s personal belongings will also be kept in confiscation for 2 years.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>On October 1, 2020, at the time of Mr. Khani&#8217;s arrest, the agents searched his home and confiscated some of his personal belongings, including his cellphone, laptop, external hard drive, two internal computer hard drives, several volumes of books, all of which had been published inside the country, a large number of research articles and scientific books on compact discs, master&#8217;s academic booklets, as well as family photographs and his diaries\u00a0 all of which according to the verdict will remain in the custody of security forces for two years.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The preliminary trial of Mohammad Khani was held on December 20, 2020, in Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court of Tehran, presided over by Judge Afshari.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It is noteworthy that Mohammad Khani, a PhD student in social welfare policy at Allameh University, is a researcher in the field of welfare and government policies, and has written and translated many relevant books and articles. \u201cSocial Theory in the Twentieth Century by Patrick Baret\u201d published by \u201cRokhdad-e New,\u201d and \u201cCulture and Planning by Simone Abram\u201d published by \u201cTisa\u201d are examples of books translated by Mr Khani.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>3-July-2021 Newsgroup: Students &ndash; Breathing in Confinement: On Saturday, July 3, 2021, Court of Appeals upheld the sentence of 4 years in prison for Mohammad Khani, an author and researcher.
