Breathing in Confinement: In recent days, the courts of the Islamic Revolution in several cities sentenced 6 protesters arrested in the nationwide uprising to imprisonment, flogging and deprivation of social rights.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

According to “Breathing in Confinement”, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, 6 citizens arrested in the cities of Songhor, Dehgolan and Tehran were sentenced to a total of 29 years and 8 months of imprisonment, flogging and deprivation of social rights.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Masoud Kamyab, a civil activist from Songhor, was arrested by the city’s security forces on September 23, 2022.<\/span><\/span> He was later sentenced by the Islamic Revolution Court in Kermanshah to one year in prison, one year of ban on leaving the country as well as a year of deprivation from social rights for the charges of “propaganda against the regime and insulting the leader of the Islamic Republic”.<\/span><\/span> He has been recently notified of his sentence in the Songhor prison.<\/span><\/span> He was denied the right to counsel during his arrest and his court hearing.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Mehdi Javanmardi, an environmental activist from Dehgolan, was arrested by the city’s security forces on September 27.<\/span><\/span> He was sentenced by the second branch of the Dehgolan Criminal Court to 9 months in prison on charges of “propaganda against the regime”, to 18 months in prison on charges of “disturbing public order”, and 42 months in prison on charges of “assembly and collusion against national security”.<\/span><\/span> He spent more than a month under harsh conditions and severe mental and physical pressure in the solitary cell in Sanandaj Intelligence Department and is currently being held in the city’s prison.<\/span><\/span> His trial was held as a few minutes of video session while he was denied the right to counsel.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Yasin Fathi, a civil activist from Dehgolan, was arrested in late September 2022 by the city’s security forces.<\/span><\/span> He was sentenced by the second branch of Dehgolan Criminal Court to 8 months in prison on charges of “propaganda against the regime”, 18 months in prison on charges of “disturbing public order”, and 42 months in prison on charges of “assembly and colluding against national security”. <\/span><\/span>His trial was held as a few minutes of video session while he was denied the right to counsel.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Sirus Abbasi and Azad Abbasi, two brothers and civil activists from Dehgolan, were arrested by the city’s security forces on September 21, 2022.<\/span><\/span> The two were sentenced by the second branch of Dehgolan Criminal Court to 10 months in prison for propaganda activities against the regime, to 18 months in prison on the charge of “disturbing public order” and to 48 months in prison on the charge of “assembly and collusion against national security”<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span> These two brothers spent more than a month under intense mental and physical pressure in the solitary cells of the detention center of Sanandaj Intelligence Department. They are currently being held in the city’s prison.<\/span><\/span> Their trial was only as few minutes of video session while they were denied the right to counsel. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Mohammad Javaheri, from Sardasht is a master’s student in the field of youth studies at Tehran University. On September 25, 2022, Mohammad left the university dormitory to go to Sardasht but he was arrested by security forces at the West Tehran Passenger Terminal.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0He was sentenced to a total of 4 years and 7 months of imprisonment and 74 lashes by the 26th Branch of the Tehran Islamic Revolution Court, headed by Judge Nima Afshari, on the charge of “assembly and colluding with the intention of disrupting national security” and “disturbing public order”.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0After 21 days of spending in detention, Mohammad is currently free on bail.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
