According to the report of \u201cBreathing in Confinement\u201d, 59 political prisoners in ward 8 at Karoun prison in Ahvaz went on hunger strike on 21st<\/sup> December 2014, demanding improvement in prison conditions and addressing the situation of ill prisoners. After 17 days, on 6th<\/sup> January they ended their hunger strike.<\/p>\n An informed source, who asked for anonymity, in a conversation regarding this group of prisoners\u2019 hunger strike told \u201cBreathing in Confinement\u2019s\u201d reporter: \u201cOn 6th<\/sup> January, after a negotiation between prison officials and the prisoners on hunger strike, prison authorities agreed to increase the number of telephone booth from 2 to 6 for the ward 8, prisoners access to prison\u2019s library, and increase the time of their family visits, so that prisoners ended their hunger strike.\u201d<\/p>\n That is to say, political prisoners in Karoun prison in Ahvaz were allowed to have phone call only 3 times a week for 3 minutes, and once a week, cabin visit with their family members.<\/p>\n It has been told, the time of prisoners\u2019 visit was very short and the prison guards were conducted intensive supervised visitation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Breathing in Confinement – 59 political prisoners in Karoun prison, in Ahvaz, ended their hunger strike after 17 days when officials agreed with some of their demands.
