27 April 2025<\/strong> Breathing in Confinement<\/strong> \u2013 On Sunday, 27 April 2025, at least nine protest gatherings were held across Iran.<\/p>\n According to the Statistical Center of Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran’s, Breathing in Confinement, pensioners under the Social Security Organisation in cities such as Ahvaz, Shush, and Kermanshah protested against low pensions, discrimination and inequality, poor living conditions, poverty, inflation, and high costs. They demanded improved pensions, better welfare services, and free healthcare. Among their slogans were: \u201cFrom the mines to the ports, workers are being killed\u201d; \u201cThey looted Iran and made us destitute\u201d; \u201cThe imprisoned teacher must be freed\u201d; \u201cThe imprisoned pensioner must be freed\u201d; \u201cThe children of the officials live in America, and the inflation is left for us\u201d; \u201cWe want neither war nor slaughter, we want lasting welfare\u201d; Steel pensioners in Isfahan, Tehran, and Kerman also held protests and marches in objection to the flawed implementation of the pension equalisation law and the government’s failure to meet their demands. They called for pension equalisation at 90% of the salaries subject to insurance deductions of active workers in equivalent positions (according to the Seventh Development Plan) and addressed other grievances. Their slogans included: \u201cSteel workers, shout out and demand your rights\u201d; \u201cInflation and high costs are destroying the people.\u201d<\/p>\n Students at Allameh Tabataba\u2019i University staged a protest demanding the release of imprisoned students Zia Nabavi and Hasti Amiri.<\/p>\n Citizens and truck drivers in Bahabad, Yazd, protested against the transfer of the Chah Gaz mine to the Chogart Bafgh and Chadormalu companies (both based outside Yazd province) under a 20-year contract, demanding that local resources not be transferred out of the province.<\/p>\n Housing applicants in Sanandaj protested against the municipality\u2019s mismanagement and disregard for their demands by entering the city hall building and locking the doors with metal wire to prevent staff from entering or exiting.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" 27 April 2025News Category: Protests – Pensioners – Students Breathing in Confinement – On Sunday, 27 April 2025, at least nine protest gatherings were held across Iran.
