Breathing in Confinement<\/strong> \u2013 At dawn on Monday, 2 June 2025, the death sentences of at least three prisoners previously convicted of \u201cmurder\u201d and drug-related offences were carried out in Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj.<\/p>\n According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners\u2019 Rights League in Iran, the executions took place at dawn on Monday. The identities of the executed prisoners have been confirmed by Breathing in Confinement as Ali Abbasi, Alireza Shahbazi<\/strong>, and Ghorban Karami Nasr<\/strong>. The number of executions on Monday appears to be rising, but at the time of reporting, there was no information on the fate of other prisoners who had been transferred to solitary confinement for the implementation of their sentences.<\/p>\n The report states that Ali Abbasi, from Afsarieh, Tehran, had been convicted of murder and sentenced to death. Alireza Shahbazi, a 45-year-old father of 2, from Kuhdasht, and Ghorban Karami Nasr, a 50-year-old also from Kuhdasht, had been convicted of drug-related offences. Shahbazi and Karami Nasr had been transferred to the quarantine ward about a month ago for the execution of their sentences, but the execution was temporarily halted and they were returned to the general ward. Their sentences were ultimately carried out at dawn on Monday, 2 June 2025, in Ghezel Hesar Prison.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n No official report<\/strong><\/p>\n As of the time of this report, the execution of these prisoners has not been announced by official resources.<\/p>\n Annual Report on Executions in Iran<\/strong><\/p>\n According to the annual report by the Statistics Centre of the Prisoners\u2019 Rights League in Iran, at least 1,170 individuals were executed in Iran in 2024.
