Breathing in Confinement<\/strong> \u2013 On Sunday, 3 August 2025, at least ten protest gatherings were held across various cities in Iran by different social groups.<\/p>\n

According to Breathing in Confinement, the Statistics Centre of the Prisoners\u2019 Rights League in Iran, at least ten protest gatherings took place in cities across the country on Sunday, 3 August 2025.<\/p>\n

In Tehran, Ahvaz, and Rasht, a group of Social Security pensioners gathered to protest low pensions, inequality and discrimination, poor living conditions, poverty, inflation, and rising prices. They demanded improved pensions, proper welfare services, and free healthcare. One of their chants was: \u201cWater, electricity, life \u2013 these are our basic rights.\u201d In Rasht, pensioners also expressed their protest by singing the national anthem \u201cEy Iran.\u201d<\/p>\n

Retired steelworkers in Isfahan held a separate protest, demanding full and proper implementation of pension equalisation, an end to the growing economic pressures, payment of outstanding wages, and justice in the face of continued neglect. Their key slogan was: \u201cWe stand united \u2013 we demand only our rightful share.\u201d<\/p>\n

In Amir Kabir New Town, applicants of the 680-unit housing project held a protest due to uncertainty around the delivery of their units, poor performance by the development company and contractors, slow progress of the project, and unexpected increases in costs.<\/p>\n

In Robat Karim, applicants of the National Housing Plan protested outside the courthouse against delays in construction, lack of transparency, and unanswered requests for information from officials.<\/p>\n

A group of Mashhad municipal contractors gathered outside city hall to protest unpaid wages, what they called false claims by authorities about settlements, and the suspension of development projects. According to the protesters, the situation has disrupted both their livelihoods and urban development.<\/p>\n

Construction site supervisors gathered in front of Tehran City Council to protest the municipality\u2019s new decision allowing developers to choose their own inspectors. They described the move as illegal and a threat to the independence of engineering oversight and construction quality, chanting: \u201cThe law must be enforced.\u201d<\/p>\n

In Sanandaj, municipal workers protested outside city hall over five months of unpaid wages. They reported that not only had their salaries been delayed, but city officials had also failed to provide any clear answers.<\/p>\n

Additionally, a group of imported truck drivers protested in front of the Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade in Tehran. They demonstrated against lengthy delays in customs clearance, damage and deterioration of their vehicles while held in customs yards, bureaucratic hurdles, and the lack of response from officials.
