He added that a petition for retrial will be submitted to the country\u2019s highest judicial authority.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"651\" data-end=\"1081\">Peyman (Amin) Farahavar, a poet from Rasht born in 1988, was arrested in September 2024 by the Ministry of Intelligence. On 1 May 2025, Branch One of the Rasht Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Ahmad Darvish-Goftar, sentenced him to death on charges of \u201cbaghi\u201d and \u201cmoharebeh through membership in the People\u2019s Mojahedin Organisation of Iran (MEK).\u201d Farahavar had previously been arrested for his political activities.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1083\" data-end=\"1362\">The issuance and implementation of death sentences against political prisoners under charges such as \u201cmoharebeh\u201d or \u201cbaghi\u201d contravene human rights principles, the right to life, freedom of expression, and fair-trial guarantees, and serve as a tool to suppress political dissent.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>24 September 2025News group: Prisoners &ndash; Breathing in Confinement &ndash; The death sentence of Peyman (Amin) Farahavar, a poet and political prisoner held in Rasht Prison, has been upheld by Iran&rsquo;s Supreme Court.
