{"id":7065,"date":"2025-10-22T20:05:19","date_gmt":"2025-10-22T20:05:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bciran.org\/wplocationen\/?p=7065"},"modified":"2025-10-22T20:05:19","modified_gmt":"2025-10-22T20:05:19","slug":"ehsan-faridis-retrial-petition-rejected-in-just-one-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bciran.org\/wplocationen\/prisoner\/ehsan-faridis-retrial-petition-rejected-in-just-one-day","title":{"rendered":"Ehsan Faridi\u2019s Retrial Petition Rejected in Just One Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"0\" data-end=\"104\">22 October 2025<br data-start=\"78\" data-end=\"81\" \/>News group: Prisoners \u2013<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"106\" data-end=\"279\"><strong data-start=\"106\" data-end=\"134\">Breathing in Confinement<\/strong> \u2013 With the Supreme Court\u2019s rejection of <strong data-start=\"175\" data-end=\"193\">Ehsan Faridi\u2019s<\/strong> petition for retrial, the risk of his death sentence being carried out has increased.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"281\" data-end=\"903\">According to Breathing in Confinement, <strong data-start=\"322\" data-end=\"345\">Mahmoud Behzadi-Rad<\/strong>, Faridi\u2019s new attorney, reported that the retrial petition was filed on <strong data-start=\"418\" data-end=\"446\">Tuesday, 14 October 2025<\/strong>, but\u2014 in an unusually rapid move and without a careful review of the reasons and evidence\u2014 it was <strong data-start=\"545\" data-end=\"576\">rejected just one day later<\/strong>, at <strong data-start=\"581\" data-end=\"620\">12:50 p.m. on Wednesday, 15 October<\/strong>. Behzadi-Rad added that although the case had been referred to <strong data-start=\"684\" data-end=\"718\">Branch 29 of the Supreme Court<\/strong>, there was <strong data-start=\"730\" data-end=\"765\">no substantive or expert review<\/strong> of the grounds for retrial. He also stated that he intends to submit <strong data-start=\"835\" data-end=\"902\">another retrial petition in person on Thursday, 23 October 2025<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"905\" data-end=\"1209\">Following this rejection, concerns have grown over the fate of <strong data-start=\"968\" data-end=\"984\">Ehsan Faridi<\/strong>, a <strong data-start=\"988\" data-end=\"1003\">22-year-old<\/strong> student at the <strong data-start=\"1019\" data-end=\"1067\">Faculty of Engineering, University of Tabriz<\/strong>, who has been sentenced to death. There are fears that his case may soon be sent to the <strong data-start=\"1156\" data-end=\"1178\">Enforcement Office<\/strong> for execution of the sentence.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Ehsan Faridi, a student at the <strong>Faculty of Engineering, University of Tabriz<\/strong>, was arrested in <strong>2023<\/strong> and released on bail on <strong>1<\/strong>8 March 2024. He was initially sentenced to six months\u2019 imprisonment on the charge of propaganda against the state, and eighteen months in another part of the case. However, on 18 June 2024, he was summoned to Branch 15 of the Tabriz Revolutionary Court\u2019s Prosecutor\u2019s Office, where the charges were changed to \u201ccorruption on earth (efsad-e fel-arz)\u201d and \u201cmembership in the People\u2019s Mojahedin Organisation of Iran (PMOI\/MEK)\u201d. That verdict was <strong data-start=\"270\" data-end=\"301\">upheld by the Supreme Court<\/strong>. With the recent rejection of his retrial petition, the sentence is now <strong data-start=\"374\" data-end=\"405\">on the verge of enforcement<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"408\" data-end=\"911\">According to published information and sources close to the family, the handling of <strong data-start=\"492\" data-end=\"510\">Ehsan Faridi\u2019s<\/strong> case has been marked from the outset by <strong data-start=\"551\" data-end=\"595\">clear violations of fair-trial standards<\/strong>\u2014including <strong data-start=\"606\" data-end=\"630\">pressure and threats<\/strong> against him and his family to extract <strong data-start=\"669\" data-end=\"691\">forced confessions<\/strong>; <strong data-start=\"693\" data-end=\"717\">lack of transparency<\/strong> in interrogations and hearings; <strong data-start=\"750\" data-end=\"806\">inability to present an effective, impartial defence<\/strong>; and <strong data-start=\"812\" data-end=\"855\">denial of access to independent counsel<\/strong> during interrogation and the preliminary investigation.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"913\" data-end=\"1123\">Breathing in Confinement, the news organ of the Prisoners\u2019 Rights League in Iran, <strong data-start=\"997\" data-end=\"1009\">condemns<\/strong> these <strong data-start=\"1016\" data-end=\"1052\">unjust, unlawful and retributive<\/strong> rulings and <strong data-start=\"1065\" data-end=\"1074\">warns<\/strong> of the serious risk to Faridi\u2019s health and life.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1125\" data-end=\"1289\">The issuance and confirmation of such sentences indicate the <strong data-start=\"1186\" data-end=\"1227\">instrumental use of the death penalty<\/strong> to <strong data-start=\"1231\" data-end=\"1261\">suppress political dissent<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"1266\" data-end=\"1288\">instil social fear<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1291\" data-end=\"1723\">Breathing in Confinement calls on the <strong data-start=\"1331\" data-end=\"1397\">UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran<\/strong>, the <strong data-start=\"1403\" data-end=\"1444\">UN High Commissioner for Human Rights<\/strong>, and <strong data-start=\"1450\" data-end=\"1491\">all international human-rights bodies<\/strong> to take <strong data-start=\"1500\" data-end=\"1530\">swift and effective action<\/strong> to halt the execution of <strong data-start=\"1556\" data-end=\"1572\" data-is-only-node=\"\">Ehsan Faridi<\/strong> and to press for a <strong data-start=\"1592\" data-end=\"1607\">fair review<\/strong> of his case.
