Breathing in Confinement<\/strong> \u2014 According to her lawyer, labour activist and political prisoner Sharifeh Mohammadi<\/strong>, currently held in Lakan (Rasht) Prison, has been sentenced to 30 years\u2019 imprisonment<\/strong>.<\/p>\n As reported by Breathing in Confinement, lawyer Amir Raeesian<\/strong> announced on X that his client\u2019s death sentence had been commuted by one degree to a first-degree custodial sentence (30 years). He added: \u201cThrough a petition for retrial and by invoking Article 477 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, we are seeking to have Ms Mohammadi\u2019s conviction overturned and for her to be acquitted of the charge of baghi (armed rebellion).\u201d<\/p>\n Ms Mohammadi, a labour activist from a village in Mianeh County, had previously been sentenced to death by Branch 1 of the Rasht Revolutionary Court on a charge of baghi. That ruling was quashed by the Supreme Court due to insufficient evidence. Nevertheless, Branch 2 of the Rasht Revolutionary Court re-issued the same verdict, and Branch 39 of the Supreme Court upheld it without adequately addressing the defence\u2019s objections.<\/p>\n Ultimately, by decision of the head of the judiciary and the exercise of discretionary authority to reduce punishment, Ms Mohammadi\u2019s death sentence was commuted to a first-degree custodial term of 30 years<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Despite the commutation, the 30-year sentence<\/strong> remains unjust and contrary to fair-trial principles, as Sharifeh Mohammadi has been prosecuted solely for peaceful trade-union activity and defending workers\u2019 rights.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" 29 October 2025News group: Prisoners – Breathing in Confinement — According to her lawyer, labour activist and political prisoner Sharifeh Mohammadi, currently held in Lakan (Rasht) Prison, has been sentenced to 30 years’ imprisonment.
