Based on the issued verdict, he was sentenced to death and 15 years\u2019 imprisonment. This ruling has now become final after confirmation by the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n<p>Informed sources report that proceedings in <strong>Mr Abdali\u2019s case were accompanied by violations of fair trial standards.<\/strong> He was denied access to an independent lawyer, and his family and relatives have reported security pressure and threats aimed at preventing them from publicising the case.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Abdali is currently held in Ward 8 of Sheiban Prison in Ahvaz, in poor conditions and under severe communication restrictions.<\/p>\n<p>The issuance and implementation of death sentences in cases involving political charges\u2014especially when the proceedings involve violations of the defendant\u2019s rights\u2014constitutes a clear breach of international human rights obligations, including the <strong>International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>7 November 2025 News category: Prisoners &ndash; Breathing in Confinement &ndash; The death sentence of political prisoner Reza Abdali, held in Ahvaz Prison, has been upheld by the Supreme Court.
