Following the conclusion of the session, the verdict was issued and formally communicated to her.

Under this ruling, Ms Narges Mohammadi was sentenced to six years of discretionary imprisonment on charges of “assembly and collusion,” and to one year and six months of discretionary imprisonment for “propaganda activity against the regime.” In addition, as a supplementary punishment, the court sentenced her to two years’ prohibition from leaving the country and two years of internal exile to the city of Khusf.

Mr Nili further stated that during the phone call, Ms Mohammadi reported that three days earlier, due to a deterioration in her physical condition, she had been transferred to hospital. However, after initial medical treatment, she was returned once again to the security detention centre. According to him, while Ms Mohammadi was explaining the details of her arrest and the judicial proceedings in her case, the phone call was suddenly cut off.

Given the issuance and notification of the verdict, the continued detention of Ms Narges Mohammadi in a security detention centre lacks legal basis. In accordance with applicable laws, she should be transferred to prison. Furthermore, in light of her physical condition and multiple medical conditions, it is expected that the judicial authority issue an appropriate bail order, including release on bail, to allow her temporary freedom in order to pursue medical treatment.

It should be noted that Ms Mohammadi was arrested on 12 December 2025 in Mashhad during a memorial ceremony marking the seventh day after the death of Khosrow Alikordi, and was subsequently tried by Branch One of the Mashhad Revolutionary Court and sentenced to imprisonment.

Ms Mohammadi has previously been sentenced multiple times in other cases, including cases opened against her while she was already serving prison sentences, to imprisonment, exile, and flogging, including:

June 2021: 30 months’ imprisonment

November 2021: 8 years’ imprisonment

October 2022: 1 year and 3 months’ imprisonment

August 2023: 1 year’s imprisonment

January 2024: 15 months’ imprisonment

June 2024: 1 year’s imprisonment

October 2024: 6 months’ imprisonment

Based on the issued verdicts, she has been sentenced in total to 154 lashes of discretionary flogging, two years of exile, and two years’ prohibition from leaving the country.

8 February 2026News Category: Prison Sentence – Breathing in Confinement – Ms Narges Mohammadi, Nobel Peace Prize laureate and prominent human rights activist, has been sentenced to imprisonment, internal exile, and a ban on leaving the country.
