The identity of the prisoner has been verified by Breathing in Confinement as <strong data-start=\"767\" data-end=\"785\">Asghar Esmaili<\/strong>. The day prior, Breathing in Confinement had reported the transfer of a prisoner to solitary confinement in Shiraz Prison.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"912\" data-end=\"1145\"><strong data-start=\"912\" data-end=\"930\">Asghar Esmaili<\/strong>, a 37-year-old man from Shiraz, had previously been arrested on charges of \u201cmurder\u201d and sentenced to death. The sentence was carried out in the early morning hours of Sunday, 15 February 2026, in Shiraz Prison.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"912\" data-end=\"1145\">\n<p><strong>Annual Report on Executions in Iran<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>According to the annual report by the Statistics Centre of the Prisoners\u2019 Rights League in Iran, at least 1,170 individuals were executed in Iran in 2024.
