They present a clear picture of the use of the death penalty as a tool to instil fear and intimidation. In this context, the prisoners’ hunger strike represents a final means of defending life and human dignity. This protest draws attention to prisoners’ conditions—from exposure to torture and inhumane treatment to the constant threat of death. Through continuing this campaign, striking prisoners seek to awaken public conscience regarding the fate of prisoners and the urgent need to abolish the death penalty.

⸻

Full Statement – Week 113 of the “Tuesdays Against Execution” Campaign

The “Tuesdays Against Execution” campaign extends its greetings on Eid al-Fitr and Nowruz to the people of Iran, especially to the families of those killed during the January 2026 uprising, and to the families of those who have been executed over the past year by the repressive and authoritarian system of “Velayat-e Faqih.”

We express our deepest gratitude to individuals, teachers’ unions, retirees, workers, families of death row prisoners, independent media, and all those who have amplified the voices of those sentenced to death. We hope that the new Persian year will be a year of freedom for Iran—a country without torture and executions.

Over the past year, the execution-driven government has hanged more than 2,650 of our fellow citizens across the country. In a particularly unjust act, on the eve of Nowruz, three young men—Mehdi Ghasemi, Saeed Davoodi, and Saleh Mohammadi, who had been arrested during the January protests—were executed in Qom. The regime also executed another prisoner, Kourosh Keyvani, on charges of espionage in Karaj Central Prison.

We, the members of the “Tuesdays Against Execution” campaign, strongly condemn these arbitrary and criminal executions carried out to spread fear in society. We call on the United Nations, governments, and human rights organisations to place pressure on the Iranian authorities to ensure at least the minimum rights of prisoners—particularly those detained in recent months who are being held incommunicado, subjected to torture, and are at risk of execution.

We also demand the release of political prisoners. Especially under current conditions of bombardment, prisoners’ lives are exposed to heightened danger, while many suffer from lack of food and inadequate medical care. In the past week, dozens of prisoners in Chabahar Prison were killed or injured by prison authorities after protesting against the lack of food supplies.

It should be noted that the campaign’s statements for Weeks 111 and 112 were not published due to communication blackouts.

In its 113th week, the “Tuesdays Against Execution” campaign is being observed through hunger strikes in the following 56 prisons:

Evin Prison (women’s and men’s wards), Qezel Hesar Prison (Units 2, 3, and 4), Karaj Central Prison, Fardis Prison (Karaj), Tehran Greater Prison, Qarchak Prison, Khorin Varamin Prison, Choobindar Prison (Qazvin), Ahar Prison, Arak Prison, Langarud Prison (Qom), Khorramabad Prison, Borujerd Prison, Yasuj Prison, Asadabad Prison (Isfahan), Dastgerd Prison (Isfahan), Sheiban Prison (Ahvaz), Sepidar Prison (Ahvaz – women’s and men’s wards), Nezam Prison (Shiraz), Adelabad Prison (Shiraz – women’s and men’s wards), Firuzabad Prison (Fars), Dehdasht Prison, Zahedan Prison (women’s and men’s wards), Borazjan Prison, Ramhormoz Prison, Behbahan Prison, Bam Prison, Yazd Prison (women’s and men’s wards), Kahnuj Prison, Tabas Prison, Birjand Central Prison, Mashhad Prison, Gorgan Prison, Sabzevar Prison, Gonbad-e Kavus Prison, Qaemshahr Prison, Rasht Prison (women’s and men’s wards), Rudsar Prison, Haviq Talesh Prison, Azbarom Lahijan Prison, Dieselabad Prison (Kermanshah), Ardabil Prison, Tabriz Prison, Urmia Prison, Salmas Prison, Khoy Prison, Naqadeh Prison, Miandoab Prison, Mahabad Prison, Bukan Prison, Saqqez Prison, Baneh Prison, Marivan Prison, Sanandaj Prison, Kamyaran Prison, Ilam Prison.

Week 113
Tuesday, 24 March 2026

24 March 2026 News Category: Political Prisoners’ Hunger Strike Breathing in Confinement — The hunger strike campaign “Tuesdays Against Execution” by political prisoners has reached its 113th week across 56 prisons in Iran.
