21 May 2026<\/strong><\/p>\n News Group: Issuance of Prison Sentences \u2013<\/strong><\/p>\n Breathing in Confinement: Milad Armoon, Alireza Kafaei, and Amirmohammad Khosh-Eghbal,<\/strong> who were arrested during the nationwide protests of 2022, have been convicted in connection with the killing of a Basij member and sentenced to imprisonment and payment of diyah (blood money).<\/p>\n According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners\u2019 Rights League in Iran, six defendants in the case known as the \u201cEkbatan Town case\u201d were convicted by Branch 13 of the Tehran Province Criminal Court One on charges related to participation in the killing. They were sentenced to pay equal shares of the full diyah for one person and to serve five years of discretionary imprisonment.<\/p>\n According to the report, three other defendants in the case \u2014 Alireza Barmarzpournak, Hossein Nemati, and Navid Najjaran<\/strong> \u2014 were acquitted of the charge of participation in intentional murder due to insufficient evidence linking them to any effective blow inflicted on a specific part of Arman Aliverdi\u2019s body.<\/p>\n The ruling was issued on 4 February and was served on the defendants\u2019 lawyers yesterday.<\/p>\n These individuals were arrested during the nationwide protests of November 2022 following the killing of Arman Aliverdi in Ekbatan Town, along with more than 50 residents of the area, by security and law enforcement forces.<\/p>\n The case has been divided into two parts: one part is being heard by Branch 15 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Abolghasem Salavati, while the other is being handled by Branch 13 of the Tehran Province Criminal Court One.
