{"id":7647,"date":"2026-05-25T06:53:50","date_gmt":"2026-05-25T06:53:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bciran.org\/wplocationen\/?p=7647"},"modified":"2026-05-25T06:53:50","modified_gmt":"2026-05-25T06:53:50","slug":"death-sentences-issued-for-four-defendants-in-the-2022-protest-case-by-tehran-revolutionary-court","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bciran.org\/wplocationen\/death-sentence\/death-sentences-issued-for-four-defendants-in-the-2022-protest-case-by-tehran-revolutionary-court","title":{"rendered":"Death sentences issued for four defendants in the 2022 protest case by Tehran Revolutionary Court"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>24 May 2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>News group: Issuance of death sentences<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Breathing in Confinement: Milad Armon, Navid Najjaran, Mehdi Imani, and Seyed Mohammadmehdi Hosseini,<\/strong> all detained during the nationwide protests of 2022, have been sentenced to death by the Tehran Revolutionary Court on charges of \u201cenmity against God\u201d (moharebeh).<\/p>\n<p>According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners\u2019 Rights League in Iran, Branch 15 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Abolghasem Salavati, sentenced these four political prisoners to death on charges of \u201cmoharebeh.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the same case, <strong>Amir Mohammad Khosh-Eghbal, Alireza Barmerz Pournak, Alireza Kafaei, and Hossein Nemati,<\/strong> the other defendants, were each sentenced to five years\u2019 imprisonment on charges of \u201cassembly and collusion against national security,\u201d and two years\u2019 imprisonment on charges of \u201cpropaganda against the state.\u201d They were also sentenced to two years\u2019 prohibition from activities in cyberspace and a two-year ban on residing in Tehran and Alborz provinces.<\/p>\n<p>According to published reports, the verdict was communicated verbally to the defendants on 24 May 2026, without the presence or prior notification of their lawyers. Reports further indicate that, at the time of publication of this report, the formal written judgment had not yet been served on the defence lawyers. This may create uncertainty or limitations regarding the defendants\u2019 ability to exercise their right to appeal within the legal time frame.<\/p>\n<p>It is noteworthy that, in an earlier branch of the same case, known as the \u201cEkbatan Township case,\u201d Branch 13 of the Tehran Province Criminal Court One had previously sentenced <strong>Milad Armon, Alireza Kafaei, and Amir Mohammad Khosh-Eghbal<\/strong> on charges of \u201cparticipation in intentional murder\u201d to each pay an equal share of the full blood money (diya) for one person and to serve five years\u2019 imprisonment.<\/p>\n<p>In the same case,<strong> Alireza Barmerz Pournak, Hossein Nemati, and Navid Najjaran<\/strong> were acquitted of the charge of \u201cparticipation in intentional murder\u201d due to insufficient evidence linking them to inflicting an effective blow on a Basij member named Arman Aliverdi.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; 24 May 2026 News group: Issuance of death sentences Breathing in Confinement: Milad Armon, Navid Najjaran, Mehdi Imani, and Seyed Mohammadmehdi Hosseini, all detained during the nationwide protests of 2022, have been sentenced to death by the Tehran Revolutionary Court on charges of &ldquo;enmity against God&rdquo; (moharebeh).
