Breathing in Confinement:<\/strong> Tara and Kimia Davoudi, two sisters and political prisoners held in Evin Prison who were arrested during the nationwide January protests, have been sentenced to a combined total of 16 years\u2019 imprisonment.<\/p>\n

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, the sentences were issued by Branch 15 of the Revolutionary Court of Tehran, presided over by Judge Abolqasem Salavati. Under the ruling, Kimia Davoudi<\/strong> was sentenced to 10 years\u2019 imprisonment on charges of \u201ccommunication with opposition groups and networks\u201d and \u201cassembly and collusion against national security.\u201d Tara Davoudi<\/strong> was also sentenced to 6 years\u2019 imprisonment on charges of \u201cassembly and collusion against national security\u201d and \u201cpropaganda against the system.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tara Davoudi, a graduate of surveying from the University of Isfahan, <\/strong>and Kimia Davoudi, a law graduate from Razi University of Kermanshah,<\/strong> were arrested in Tehran on 14 January and are currently being held in the women\u2019s ward of Evin Prison.<\/p>\n

Reports indicate that the arrest of the two sisters was accompanied by violence and physical assault by security forces.<\/p>\n

At the time of publication, no further details had been released regarding the judicial proceedings, access to legal representation, or the health status of the two prisoners.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
