{"id":7706,"date":"2026-06-05T08:31:46","date_gmt":"2026-06-05T08:31:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bciran.org\/wplocationen\/?p=7706"},"modified":"2026-06-05T08:31:46","modified_gmt":"2026-06-05T08:31:46","slug":"supreme-court-upholds-death-sentences-of-three-political-prisoners-in-ahvaz","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bciran.org\/wplocationen\/death-sentence\/supreme-court-upholds-death-sentences-of-three-political-prisoners-in-ahvaz","title":{"rendered":"Supreme Court Upholds Death Sentences of Three Political Prisoners in Ahvaz"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>4 June 2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>News Category: Death Sentences\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Breathing in Confinement:<\/strong> The Supreme Court has upheld the death sentences of three political prisoners, <strong>Masoud Jamei, Alireza Mardasi, and Farshad Etemadifar,<\/strong> who are currently imprisoned in Sheiban Prison, Ahvaz.<\/p>\n<p>According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners\u2019 Rights League in Iran, Branch One of the Ahvaz Islamic Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Adibi-Mehr, tried the three prisoners in a joint case in July last year on charges of \u201cspreading corruption on earth\u201d (efsad-e fel-arz), \u201cmembership in the Mojahedin-e Khalq Organisation (MEK),\u201d and \u201cpropaganda against the state.\u201d Each was sentenced to two death sentences and one year of discretionary imprisonment.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Farshad Etemadifar,<\/strong> from Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province, was arrested in 2023 alongside two Arab citizens, <strong>Masoud Jamei (Bavi) and Alireza Mardasi (Hamidavi),<\/strong> in a joint case that also included <strong>Saman Hormatnejad and Davoud Hormatnejad.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In the same case, <strong>Davoud Hormatnejad<\/strong> was sentenced to 15 years\u2019 imprisonment, while <strong>Saman Hormatnejad<\/strong> received a sentence of 12 years\u2019 discretionary imprisonment.<\/p>\n<p>Following the announcement that <strong>Alireza Mardasi\u2019s<\/strong> death sentence had been upheld, the Coordinating Council of Iranian Teachers\u2019 Trade Associations expressed concern over the possibility that these sentences may be carried out. Condemning what it described as an atmosphere of \u201cintimidation, repression, and the intensified use of the death penalty,\u201d particularly in the aftermath of recent developments and tensions, the council called for the immediate suspension of the issuance and implementation of death sentences.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, the organisation also emphasised the right to life and the necessity of adhering to the principles of fair trial and due process.
