The identity of the prisoner has been confirmed by Breathing in Confinement as <strong>Azad Shoushtari<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>According to the report, <strong>Azad Shoushtari<\/strong> had previously been arrested on charges of murder and, following judicial proceedings, was sentenced to death by the court. According to information received, the victim\u2019s family had demanded <strong>6 billion tomans<\/strong> in blood money (<em>diyeh<\/em>) in exchange for granting forgiveness. Despite efforts made on his behalf, only <strong>4 billion tomans<\/strong> of the required amount was raised.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Azad Shoushtari<\/strong> was transferred to solitary confinement on Monday, 25 May 2026, in preparation for the implementation of the sentence. His execution was carried out in the early hours of Tuesday, 26 May 2026, at Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>No official announcement<\/strong><br \/>\nAt the time of publication, no official sources had announced the execution of this prisoner.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Annual report on executions in Iran<\/strong><br \/>\nAccording to the annual report of the Statistical Centre of the Prisoners&#8217; Rights League in Iran, between March 2025 and March 2026, at least 2,616 individuals were executed in Iran. Of these, 12 executions were carried out in public.
