{"id":7785,"date":"2026-06-12T12:51:47","date_gmt":"2026-06-12T12:51:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bciran.org\/wplocationen\/?p=7785"},"modified":"2026-06-12T12:51:47","modified_gmt":"2026-06-12T12:51:47","slug":"new-prison-sentences-issued-against-imprisoned-outstanding-students-ali-younesi-and-amirhossein-moradi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bciran.org\/wplocationen\/prison-sentence\/new-prison-sentences-issued-against-imprisoned-outstanding-students-ali-younesi-and-amirhossein-moradi","title":{"rendered":"New Prison Sentences Issued Against Imprisoned Outstanding Students Ali Younesi and Amirhossein Moradi"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>11 June 2026<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>News Category: Prison Sentences<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Breathing in Confinement:<\/strong> Ali Younesi and Amirhossein Moradi, two outstanding students and winners of astronomy Olympiad medals who are currently imprisoned, have received new prison sentences.<\/p>\n<p>According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners&#8217; Rights League in Iran, Mostafa Nili, the lawyer representing the two political prisoners, announced that Branch 29 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court has sentenced each of them to <strong>15 months\u2019 imprisonment<\/strong> on charges of <strong>\u201cpropaganda against the state.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mr Nili also wrote on the social media platform X that, in a separate ruling, <strong>Ali Younesi<\/strong> was sentenced to <strong>five years\u2019 imprisonment in Kerman<\/strong> on charges of <strong>\u201cendorsing and supporting Israel.\u201d<\/strong> As an additional punishment, he has reportedly been prohibited from using social media and from making telephone calls to individuals outside the prison, except in necessary circumstances and under the supervision of prison authorities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ali Younesi and Amirhossein Moradi were arrested on<\/strong> <strong>10 April 2020<\/strong> by agents of the Ministry of Intelligence without the presentation of a judicial warrant and were transferred to Ward 209 of Evin Prison. The two students of Sharif University of Technology remained there for more than two years before being moved to the prison\u2019s general ward.<\/p>\n<p>At their initial trial, they faced charges including \u201cdestruction and arson of public property,\u201d \u201cassembly and collusion against national security,\u201d \u201cpropaganda against the state,\u201d and \u201csupport for the Mojahedin-e Khalq Organisation (MEK).\u201d Ali Younesi was sentenced to 10 years\u2019 imprisonment, while Amirhossein Moradi received a five-year prison sentence, with both also receiving an additional one-year sentence.
