Sepideh Kashani, an environmentalist, was arrested along with her husband Houman Jokar and seven other environmentalists in a coordinated operation by the IRGC Intelligence Organization in the final months of 2017 on charges related to “espionage.”

She holds a master’s degree in environmental assessment. With more than 10 years of experience in various environmental organizations, she played an important role in coordinating the field and office activities of the Persian Wildlife Heritage Foundation. For many years she worked in the Qeshm Free Zone to protect sea turtles. Among her other work is the “Protection of the Natural Values of Hengam Island” project for the conservation of Persian Gulf dolphins. She is the wife of Houman Jokar.

After five court sessions at Branch 15 of the Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Salavati, she was sentenced to 6 years in prison. Her husband, Houman Jokar, was sentenced to 8 years’ discretionary imprisonment.

After 22 months held in the IRGC’s Ward 2A solitary cells, she is currently held in the women’s political ward of Evin prison.
