Mahshad Keshani Re-arrested in Isfahan and Transferred to an Unknown Location

Breathing in Confinement, Tuesday, 4 August 2026: Mahshad Keshani, one of those arrested during the nationwide protests in January this year, was arrested by security forces in Isfahan on Monday, 3 August, and transferred to an undisclosed location.

According to *Breathing in Confinement*, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, published information indicates that at approximately 7:00 a.m. on Monday, three men and one woman in plain clothes arrived at Ms Keshani’s home in Isfahan. Without presenting a judicial warrant or providing any explanation regarding the authority responsible for the arrest or her destination, they arrested her and took her away.

Her family stated that the officers told them the arrest was related to the opening of a “new case.” At the same time, an informed source reported that she has been accused in this case of offences including “inciting people to wage war and commit killings with the intent to disrupt the security of the country” and “disturbing public order and peace.”

Mahshad Keshani was previously arrested on 31 December 2025 during the nationwide protests in Isfahan. Following the opening of a new case, she was transferred to Dowlatabad Prison in Isfahan to serve a previous prison sentence. She was ultimately released from prison in July this year after completing her sentence and being granted bail in relation to the protest-related case.

At the time of writing, no reliable information is available regarding her whereabouts or her physical and legal condition. She has also been denied any contact with her family, further heightening concerns about her situation.

It is worth noting that in 2024, in a joint case involving 21 other political defendants, Mahshad Keshani was sentenced by Branch 1 of the Isfahan Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Mohammad Tavakkoli, to a total of six years’ imprisonment on charges of “membership in groups or associations with the intent to disrupt national security” and “propaganda against the state.” In addition, she was sentenced to a two-year travel ban and prohibited from engaging in activities on social media for two years.

Ms Keshani had also previously been arrested by security forces on 11 July 2023 and was released after a period of detention on bail.
