Execution of a Prisoner in Ardabil Prison

Breathing in Confinement, Thursday, 6 August 2026: The death sentence of at least one prisoner who had previously been arrested on charges of “murder” and sentenced to death was carried out in Ardabil Prison.

According to reporters from Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, a prisoner was hanged in Ardabil Prison at dawn on Thursday, 6 August. The prisoner has been identified by Breathing in Confinement as Touhid Abdollahi.

According to the report, Touhid Abdollahi, a resident of Ardabil and the father of two daughters, had previously been arrested and sentenced to death for the murder of a man identified by the surname Doaei. He was transferred to solitary confinement the previous day in preparation for the execution. His death sentence was carried out at dawn on Thursday, 6 August 2026, in Ardabil Prison.

Annual report on executions in Iran
According to the annual report of the Statistical Centre of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, between March 2025 and March 2026, at least 2,616 individuals were executed in Iran.
