Former Ahwazi Arab Political Prisoner Transferred to Sheiban Prison After Nine Months of Enforced Disappearance

Breathing in Confinement, Thursday, 6 August 2026: Mohammad Jafar Armeshi, a former Ahwazi Arab political prisoner, has been transferred to Ahvaz Central Prison (Sheiban) after more than nine months of enforced disappearance.

According to reporters from Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, Mohammad Jafar Armeshi (Hamid Jaderi), a 58-year-old resident of the Alavi district of Ahvaz, son of Sabah and also known as Abu Tareq, had been held in the detention facility of the Intelligence Department under conditions amounting to enforced disappearance over the past several months. He has recently been transferred to Sheiban Prison in Ahvaz.

According to information received, throughout his detention he was denied access to his most basic rights, including the ability to contact his family or receive any information regarding his condition or place of detention. During this entire period, his family remained unaware of his whereabouts, the conditions of his detention, and the reasons for his arrest. Their repeated enquiries to the relevant authorities went unanswered.

Sources close to the family have stated that Mr Armeshi was transferred to Sheiban Prison without any official explanation regarding the status of his case, the charges against him, or his physical condition, further intensifying concerns for his health and safety.

Mohammad Jafar Armeshi had previously been arrested in connection with his political activities on charges including “acting against national security” and “communication with foreign entities.” He spent approximately six years in Karoon and Sheiban prisons in Ahvaz between 2011 and 2017.
