Execution of Two Prisoners in Qezelhesar Prison

Breathing in Confinement, Wednesday, 29 July 2026: The death sentences of at least two prisoners, who had previously been arrested on murder charges and sentenced to death, were carried out in Qezelhesar Prison.

According to reporters from Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, two prisoners were hanged at dawn on Wednesday, 29 July, in Qezelhesar Prison. The identity of one of the prisoners has been confirmed by Breathing in Confinement as Seyed Ahmad Tabatabaei Zavareh. The identity of the other prisoner is still under investigation.

According to the report, Seyed Ahmad Tabatabaei Zavareh, a resident of Varamin, had previously been arrested on a murder charge and sentenced to death by the judiciary. The other prisoner was the father of a young son. Despite extensive efforts to obtain clemency, the victim’s family did not grant consent to halt the execution.

The death sentences were carried out at dawn on Wednesday, 29 July 2026, in Qezelhesar Prison.

According to the annual report of the Statistical Centre of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, between March 2025 and March 2026, at least 2,616 individuals were executed in Iran. Of these, 12 executions were carried out in public. The executed individuals included 67 women and 8 juvenile offenders.
