Execution of a Prisoner After 17 Years of Imprisonment in Qezelhesar Prison

Breathing in Confinement, Tuesday, 28 July 2026: The death sentence of at least one prisoner, who had previously been arrested on a murder charge and sentenced to death, was carried out in Qezelhesar Prison.
According to reporters from Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, a prisoner was hanged in Qezelhesar Prison in the early hours of Tuesday, 28 July. The prisoner’s identity is currently being verified.
According to the report, the prisoner had been arrested 17 years ago on a murder charge and sentenced to death by the Iranian judiciary. Efforts to obtain the victim’s family’s consent for clemency were unsuccessful, and the sentence was carried out in the early hours of Tuesday, 28 July 2026, in Qezelhesar Prison.

Annual report on executions in Iran
According to the annual report of the Statistical Centre of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, between March 2025 and March 2026, at least 2,616 individuals were executed in Iran. Of these, 12 executions were carried out in public. The executed individuals included 67 women and 8 juvenile offenders.
