Fatemeh Eyni, a Death Row Prisoner, Transferred to Solitary Confinement Ahead of Possible Execution

Breathing in Confinement, Monday, 19 October 2026: Amnesty International has issued an urgent warning regarding the imminent risk of execution facing Fatemeh Eyni, a prisoner held in Lakan Prison in Rasht, calling for an immediate halt to the implementation of her death sentence.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of Prisoners’ Rights in Iran, Fatemeh Eyni, 31, has been held in Lakan Prison in Rasht since the spring of 2021 and was sentenced to death on drug-related charges. According to available information, she was arrested in possession of approximately 16 kilograms of narcotics and subsequently sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court. Following confirmation of the verdict by the Supreme Court, her case was recently referred to the sentence enforcement unit.
Amnesty International reported that Fatemeh Eyni had been transferred to solitary confinement three days before the organisation issued its warning, raising concerns that her execution could be imminent. Citing an informed source, the organisation warned that her death sentence could be carried out as early as the day following the publication of its statement.
Amnesty International, describing her trial as grossly unfair, has called for an immediate halt to Fatemeh Eyni’s execution. The organisation also emphasised that imposing the death penalty for drug-related offences violates international human rights standards.
The transfer of Fatemeh Eyni to solitary confinement, following the Supreme Court’s confirmation of her death sentence and the referral of her case for enforcement, has heightened concerns for her life and the imminent risk of her execution.
