Breathing in Confinement, Monday, 19 October 2026: Seven political prisoners held in Qarchak Prison in Varamin and Greater Tehran Prison, who were arrested during the January protests, have been sentenced to a combined total of 60 years and six months in prison by Branch 23 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court. The prisoners have been identified as Amir Sabbaghi, Abedin Golshani, Samira Mohebbi, Mehdi Sabbaghi, Abolfazl Sabbaghi, Hamid Sabbaghi, and Saeed Javid.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of Prisoners’ Rights in Iran, the sentences against these seven citizens were issued recently. According to the verdicts, Amir Sabbaghi was sentenced to 21 years in prison on charges of “operational activities against national security.” Abedin Golshani received a 16-year prison sentence on the same charge, while Samira Mohebbi was sentenced to 10 years in prison on the same grounds.

Mehdi Sabbaghi was sentenced to one year in prison on charges of “propaganda against the regime,” three years and six months for “assembly and collusion,” and a further three years and six months for “membership in hostile groups,” bringing his total sentence to eight years in prison.

Abolfazl Sabbaghi was sentenced to two years and six months in prison on charges of “assembly and collusion,” while Hamid Sabbaghi received a two-year prison sentence on the same charge. Saeed Javid was also sentenced to one year in prison on charges of “propaganda against the regime.”

All seven citizens were arrested during the January protests. Following their arrests, Samira Mohebbi was transferred to Qarchak Prison in Varamin, while the other six were transferred to Greater Tehran Prison. They remain detained in these prisons.

These seven individuals are also defendants in a joint case involving Barzou Rezaei, a prisoner who was previously sentenced to death by Branch 23 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court. On 7 October this year, Rezaei was transferred from Greater Tehran Prison to Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj.

The lengthy prison sentences imposed on these seven citizens come as their cases remain linked to that of Barzou Rezaei, who is facing the death penalty.
