Report on the Execution of Abbas Abdolmaleki in Qezel Hesar Prison, Karaj

Breathing in Confinement, Friday, 31 July 2026: A prisoner who had been arrested on a charge of “murder” following a group altercation and sentenced to death was executed on 3 September 2025 in Qezel Hesar Prison, Karaj.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, the execution was carried out at dawn on Wednesday, 3 September 2025, in Qezel Hesar Prison, Karaj. The prisoner’s identity has been confirmed by Breathing in Confinement as Abbas Abdolmaleki. It should be noted that his execution was not reported by the media at the time it took place and is now being disclosed publicly for the first time.

According to information obtained by Breathing in Confinement, Abbas Abdolmaleki, an ethnic Lur man approximately 40 years old, was arrested on a charge of murder following a group altercation and was later sentenced to death by the Iranian judiciary. According to a source close to him, although he was present at the scene of the fight, he did not play a direct role in the killing, and this issue was not thoroughly examined during the judicial process. Nevertheless, he was sentenced to death and, after approximately four years in prison, was executed at dawn on Wednesday, 3 September 2025, in Qezel Hesar Prison, Karaj.
