Report on the Execution of Four Prisoners in Qezel Hesar and Karaj Central Prisons

Breathing in Confinement, Monday, 28 September 2026: The death sentences of at least four prisoners, who had previously been sentenced to death in separate cases on charges related to “drug offences” and “murder,” were carried out in Qezel Hesar and Karaj Central Prisons.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, four prisoners were executed in Qezel Hesar and Karaj Central Prisons. The prisoners have been identified as Mojtaba Haghi, Mohammadreza Khorram, Shahhossein Abbasi (Jafari), and Milad Zeinali.

According to information received by Breathing in Confinement, Mojtaba Haghi, a 38-year-old resident of Varamin, was arrested approximately three years ago on a charge of “murder” and was subsequently sentenced to death by the judiciary. His death sentence was carried out in Qezel Hesar Prison at dawn on Sunday, 27 September.

Shahhossein Abbasi (Jafari), a resident of Nurabad, was arrested approximately 11 years ago on a charge related to “drug offences” and sentenced to death. His death sentence was also carried out in Qezel Hesar Prison.

Milad Zeinali, a 28-year-old resident of Kuhdasht, was arrested approximately 10 years ago in a separate case on a charge related to “drug offences” and sentenced to death. His death sentence was carried out in Qezel Hesar Prison at dawn on Sunday, 27 September.

Mohammadreza Khorram, aged 23, was arrested approximately five years ago on a charge of “murder” and sentenced to death. His death sentence was carried out in Karaj Central Prison at dawn on Wednesday, 9 September.

Breathing in Confinement had previously reported the executions of Shahhossein Abbasi (Jafari) and Milad Zeinali.

Annual Report on Executions in Iran

According to the annual report of the Statistics Centre of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 2,616 people were executed in Iran during the Iranian year 1404. Of these, 12 were executed in public. The executions also included 67 women and eight juvenile offenders.
