Violent Raid by Evin Prison Guards on Ward 7; Three Political Prisoners Beaten and Transferred to an Unknown Location

Breathing in Confinement, Saturday, 1 August 2026: At approximately 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Evin Prison guards raided the hall housing political prisoners in Ward 7 of the prison. During the raid, three political prisoners were severely beaten before being taken away and transferred to an undisclosed location.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, prison guards assaulted Amirhossein Moradi, Ehsan Rostami, and Afshin Rangriz during the raid on Ward 7. According to the report, all three prisoners sustained injuries as a result of the beating, and their clothing was torn during the assault.

Following the violent attack, the officers forcibly removed the three political prisoners from the ward and transferred them to an undisclosed location. At the time of publication, no information was available regarding their whereabouts or physical condition.

According to reports received by Breathing in Confinement, the operation involved Yousefi (Deputy for Health Affairs at Evin Prison), Fathollahi (Head of the Prison Guard Unit), Sadeghi (Deputy Head of Protection), Rostami (Deputy Commander of the Guard Unit), Haghjou (Head of Inspection), and Mahmoudi (Head of Ward 7), along with a large number of prison guard personnel.

The enforced transfer of prisoners to an undisclosed location without informing their families or legal representatives constitutes an enforced disappearance, which is prohibited under international law. Ward 7 of Evin Prison has long been a source of concern for human rights organisations due to the unlawful detention of political and security prisoners alongside those accused of ordinary criminal offences, as well as its inadequate sanitary conditions and poor infrastructure.

The Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran expresses grave concern over the fate of these three political prisoners and calls for the immediate disclosure of their whereabouts, guarantees for their physical safety, and an end to the violent treatment of political detainees. The organisation also urges the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran and other international human rights mechanisms to take urgent action to demand that the authorities reveal the prisoners’ whereabouts, ensure their safety, and halt all forms of torture and other ill-treatment.
