Tabriz: Mohammad Mardi received prison and flogging sentence

Breathing in Confinement: Mohammad Mardi, a civil activist living in Tabriz, was sentenced to 3 months in prison as well as 74 lashes.
According to “Breathing in Confinement” the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, Branch 111 of the Criminal Court 2 in East Azerbaijan, headed by Reza Foroughi, sentenced Mohammad Mardi, a civil activist from Azerbaijan province to three months in prison as well as 74 lashes on charges of “disturbing public order by creating a commotion and chaos”.
Mohammad Mardi was absent from the hearing because of his illness and being admitted at Sina Hospital.
On July 26, 2021, security agents, without presenting a detention warrant, arrested him at his father’s home in Tabriz. He was beaten during his arrest and suffered head and jaw injuries. Mohammad Mardi was temporarily released on bail from Tabriz prison on August 14 awaiting the trial.
Many activists were detained in East Azerbaijan province after their protest rally in support of the uprisings in Khuzestan.
