Breathing in Confinement: Yesterday, for the second time in the last ten days, Arman Abdolali, a child accused in Rajai Shahr Prison, was transferred to solitary confinement to serve his death sentence.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, for the second time in the last 10 days, the child accused, Arman Abdolali, who was 17-year-old at the time of allegedly killing Ghazaleh Shakur, was transferred to solitary confinement in Rajai Shahr Prison to serve his death sentence. As per the prison officials, Arman’s death sentence will be carried out in the coming days.

The lawyer Babak Paknia, quoting Mr. Abdolali’s father, said about the imminent execution of this prisoner. He announced that the sentence will be carried out on the morning of Wednesday, October 20, 2021.

Earlier in this week, Arman Abdolali was transferred to solitary confinement and had his last visit with his family to serve his sentence. However, for unannounced reasons, his execution was postponed.

On October 12, 2021, UN human rights experts, including Javaid Rehman, the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran, called for an immediate halt to the execution of Arman Abdolali and the abolition of the death penalty for children.

Arman Abdolali is accused of killing his girlfriend Ghazaleh Shakur in 2013, when he was less than 18 years old. He is said to have confessed to killing Ghazaleh after being held and interrogated in solitary confinement for 37 days.

Arman Abdolali, however, denied Ghazaleh’s murder in the second court, saying: “I was a child at that time. “I made many mistakes, but I did not commit a murder.”

Arman Abdolali continued his education in prison and is now holding a Master’s degree from Modarres University in Tehran. He is accused of committing a murder, body of its victim has yet to be found.

The Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran calls on all human rights authorities to respond in a timely manner and to try to halt the death sentence of Arman Abdolali. Arman Abdolali’s life depends on pressure from international organizations and UN human rights authorities on the Iranian government to overturn his death sentence.
