One year of uncertainty for an inmate of Urmia prison

Breathing in Confinement –  After one year of being in custody in Urmia prison, Salam Mardan a prisoner from Oshnavieh city is still in an uncertain situation.

According to the Kurdish Center for Democracy and Human Rights, Salam Mardan, a citizen of Oshnavieh city, has been under custody in an uncertain situation over the last year.

He was arrested by the security forces on October 30, 2018. Since then, he has been transferred to the court and returned again to the jail three times, without the hearing even being held.

The report quotes an informed source as saying: ” Salam Mardan’s family members after frequent follow-ups on his situation, were informed that Salam had been arrested on security charges. However, no exact information has been provided on the charges against him. ”

In addition, since the time of his arrest, Mr. Mardan’s family members have twice been informed that they could apply for bail. On their visit to the judicial centers however, the Ministry of Intelligence impeded him to be temporarily released.
