At Least Three Prisoners Transferred to Solitary Confinement for Execution in Ghezel Hesar Prison

Breathing in Confinement – On Monday, February 17, 2025, at least three prisoners who had been arrested and sentenced to death on drug related charges were transferred to solitary confinement in Ghezel Hesar Prison in preparation for execution.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, three prisoners in Ghezel Hesar Prison have been moved to solitary confinement ahead of their executions. The identities of these prisoners have been confirmed by Breathing in Confinement as Mahmoud Barahouyi, Reza Anzali, and Hossein Sasani.
Mahmoud Barahouyi is from Zahedan, Reza Anzali is from Rasht, and Hossein Sasani is from Tehran.
Annual Report on Executions in Iran
According to the annual report of the Statistics Center of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 848 citizens were executed in 2023. Of these, 7 were executed in public. 57 percent of the executions were for drug related charges.
