Transfer of 7 Prisoners to Solitary Confinement for Execution in Ghezel Hesar Prison

Breathing in Confinement: On Sunday, February 23, 2025, at least seven prisoners who had been arrested and sentenced to death on charges of “murder” and drug-related offenses were transferred to solitary confinement in Ghezel Hesar Prison in preparation for their executions.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, six prisoners in Ghezel Hesar Prison have been moved to solitary confinement for execution. The identities of three of these prisoners—Bahram Hedavandkhani, Reza Miri, and Alireza (surname unknown)—have been confirmed by Breathing in Confinement. The identities of the remaining four prisoners are still under investigation.
Among the four prisoners sentenced to death on charges of “murder,” two have been identified as Bahram Hedavandkhani and Alireza. All three of these prisoners are residents of Tehran. Notably, Bahram Hedavandkhani has been transferred to solitary confinement for execution multiple times before.
Three other prisoners, sentenced to death on drug-related charges, were also transferred. One of them, Reza Miri, is from Tehran, while the identities of the remaining prisoners are still being verified.
Annual Report on Executions in Iran
According to the annual report of the Statistics Center of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 848 citizens were executed in 2023. Of these, 7 were executed in public. 57 percent of the executions were for drug related charges.
