Shahnaz Akmali is released from prison

Breathing in Confinement: Shahnaz Akmali, the mother of Mostafa Karimbeigi, one of the killed protesters in 2009 uprisings, was released from prison. Mrs. Akmali had been sentenced to prison for seeking justice for her son.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, Shahnaz Akmali, a political prisoner and the mother of Mostafa Karim Beigi, wrote on her Twitter page on July, 25: “my furlough was followed by release. From today onward, there no longer is a case against me. The only case, however, that is still open for me, is the case of my son’s murder, which I pursue forever”
Ms. Shahnaz Akmali was arrested at work by the Ministry of Intelligence on January 25, 2017. She was then taken to her home and after searching her home, the agents confiscated all her personal belongings. The civil activist and the justice seeker mother was released on bail from Evin Prison on February 15 of the same year, pending the end of the trial.
On Wednesday, January 15, 2020, Ms. Akmali was transferred to Evin Prison to serve her one-year prison sentence. Following the Coronavirus outbreak, however, and as per the relevant circular issued by the Judiciary, she was sent on leave on Wednesday, March 2, 2020. And finally, her release letter was issued on July 25, 2020.
