Breathing in Confinement: On October 26, Amir Hossein Moradi, one of the detainees of November 2019 protests, was temporarily released from the Greater Tehran Prison on bail of 4 billion tomans, awaiting the court’s decision. Amir Hossein was admitted to Razi Hospital in Tehran when he received the court’s order for his temporary release.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, Amir Hossein Moradi, one of the detainees of November 2019 nationwide protests, was released on 4 billion Toman bail pending the trial. Amir Hossein Moradi had been hospitalized for several months due to the exacerbation of his illness, and he was notified of the court’s order for his temporary release in the hospital. He, along with Saeed Tamjidi and Mohammad Rajabi, were sentenced to death in February 2020, by Branch 15 of the Revolutionary Court, headed by Judge Salavati.
According to the reports, the cases of these three prisoners will be once again referred to the Evin Court in the coming days. An informed source said: “Branch 29 of the Revolutionary Court of Tehran has dropped the charge of ‘Moharebeh’ against Mr. Moradi, Mr. Tamjidi and Mr. Rajabi, and has ordered for the resumption of the preliminary investigations.”
The three prisoners’ request for retrial was accepted by Branch 1 of the Supreme Court in early December last year, and their death sentences were afterward overturned. Their cases were later referred to Branch 23 of the Revolutionary Court of Tehran, but the hearing was postponed when the head of the branch was changed. In March 2021, the date for their retrial was set for May 12, 2021. However, since the responsible judge was absent, the next hearing also was postponed. In July this year, despite the stressful circumstances of these three prisoners because of having a suspended death sentence, their trial was postponed for the fourth time.
After the suspicious death of a political prisoner Sasan Niknafs in the Greater Tehran Prison, Amir Hossein Moradi, one of his cellmates, was transferred to the Police Investigation Office (Agahi) on Shapour Street, following a complaint against him filed by Prisons Organization on charge of “murder.”
While in detention at the Police Investigation Center, he was denied access to medical care as well as the right to call or visit his family . Amir Hossein Moradi’s illness worsened because of the poor condition of the detention center, as well as lacking the permission to take his medications. After being transferred to the Greater Tehran Prison, he caught Covid-19 for which he was hospitalized. However, the authorities did not allow him to complete his treatment course and despite his deteriorating condition, he was sent back to prison. Deprivation of medical care, as well as the stress of receiving a death sentence and the repeated postponement of his trial, exacerbated Mr. Moradi’s skin condition. So much so that the prison authorities sent him back to the hospital. However, due to the lack of medical treatment in prison, septicemia also had been added to his previous illnesses.
According to the latest reports, the skin disease of Amir Hossein Moradi is as severe as he can only receive his injections through his jugular vein.
