Breathing in Confinement: To be charged in a new case, in her 11th year in prison, on June 10, 2020, the political prisoner, Maryam Akbari Monfared was summoned to Moghaddas Court in Evin Prison.
While being kept in prison since 2009, without even a single day leave, the political prisoner, Maryam Akbari Monfared, was charged in a new case at Branch 2 of Moghaddas Court in Evin Prison, reported Breathing in Confinement, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran.
As per the information received to Breathing in Confinement, the new case has been opened against her because of chanting slogans against the Islamic Republic on the eve of February 11 at Evin prison’s women’s ward. Considering the Coronavirus outbreak and because of her lawyer’s unawareness of the summon, as well as the fact that the summon was unlawfully verbal, Ms. Akbari Monfared has refused to appear at Branch 2 of Evin Prison Court.
The new case has been filed against Ms. Akbari Monfared, while she has spent the last eleven years in prison without being granted even a single day leave.
Maryam Akbari Monfared was arrested on December 30, 2009. And in June 2009, in Branch 15 of the Revolutionary Court, she was sentenced to 15 years in prison as well as banishment. The Supreme Court later upheld the same sentence for Ms. Monfared.
