The student activist, Saha Mortezaei is sentenced to six years in prison

Breathing in Confinement: Saha Mortezaei, a student activist and former secretary of Tehran University Trade Union Council, has been sentenced to 6 years in prison by Branch 15 of the Revolutionary Court in Tehran.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, Mostafa Nili, Ms. Mortezaei’s lawyer, announcing the prison sentence for this student activist, wrote on his Twitter page: “Today, the verdict issued by Branch 15 of the Revolutionary Court, was notified to Saha Mortezaei. Accordingly, on charges of conspiracy to act against national security, she has been sentenced to six years in prison.”

“A sit-in at the University of Tehran in protest against having been starred (marked by the officials a troubled student), taking part in the protests at the University of Tehran in November last year, and her activities in the university union council are examples of her charges,” Mr. Nili continued.

 

Saha Mortezaei had previously been arrested by security forces on November 17, 2019, during the nationwide protests. She then on January 22, 2020, was released on bail from Qarchak Prison in Varamin, awaiting her trial to be finalized.
