Breathing in Confinement: In recent days, the execution of two prisoners on charges related to “drug offenses” was carried out in Lakan Prison, Rasht.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, the death sentences of two prisoners were carried out in Lakan Prison, Rasht, last week. The identities of the prisoners have been confirmed as Ramin Poursefar and Arman Ta’ati.
At dawn on Saturday, September 21, 2024, Ramin Poursefar, who had previously been arrested and sentenced to death for drug-related offenses, was executed in Lakan Prison, Rasht. Additionally, in mid-September 2024, the death sentence of another prisoner named Arman Ta’ati, who had also been sentenced to death for drug-related offenses, was carried out.
Previously, Breathing in Confinement had reported the execution of Amir Hosseini Boroumand in Lakan Prison, Rasht. Thus, in the past week, at least three prisoners have been executed in Lakan Prison, Rasht.
As of the time of this report, the execution of these prisoners has not been announced by official resources.
According to the annual report of the Statistics Center of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 848 citizens were executed in 2023. Of these, 7 were executed in public. 57 percent of the executions were for drug related charges.
