Breathing in Confinement: At dawn on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, the execution of at least one prisoner on charges of “murder” was carried out in Jiroft Prison.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news agency of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, a prisoner was executed at dawn on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, in Jiroft Prison.

The identity of this prisoner has been confirmed by Breathing in Confinement as Mohammad Reza Qanbar Maleki.

Mohammad Reza Qanbar Maleki had previously been arrested and sentenced to death on charges of murder. He was transferred from Ward 2, Room 2, to solitary confinement the day before his execution. His sentence was carried out in Jiroft Prison on Wednesday, October 9.

As of the time of this report, the execution of this prisoner has not been announced by official resources.

According to the annual report of the Statistics Center of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 848 citizens were executed in 2023. Of these, 7 were executed in public. 57 percent of the executions were for drug related charges.
