Breathing in Confinement – At dawn on Monday, April 28, 2025, the death sentence of a prisoner convicted of murder was carried out in Sepidar Prison in Ahvaz.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, a prisoner was executed early Monday morning in Ahvaz Central Prison (Sepidar). The identity of the prisoner has been confirmed by Breathing in Confinement as  Ali Kaabi.

Ali Kaabi, 23 years old and a resident of Shushtar, had been arrested in 2021 on charges of murder and was later sentenced to death. The execution was carried out at dawn on Monday, April 28, 2025, in Sepidar Prison in Ahvaz.

Annual Report on Executions in Iran

According to the annual report by the Statistics Centre of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 1,170 individuals were executed in Iran in 2024. Among them, six people were executed in public, and the executed also included 38 women and 9 juvenile offenders.
