Increase in Number of Death Row Prisoners Transferred to Solitary Confinement in Ghezel Hesar Prison

Breathing in Confinement – Monday, 5 Khordad 1404 (25 May 2025): At least six prisoners convicted of charges related to drug offenses, murder, and espionage have been transferred to solitary confinement in Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj for the implementation of their death sentences.

According to reporters from Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, the six inmates were moved from various wards of Ghezel Hesar Prison to solitary confinement in preparation for their executions. Additionally, since last week, at least one prisoner convicted of murder, whose execution was postponed for ten days, has remained in solitary confinement.

Annual Report on Executions in Iran

According to the annual report by the Statistics Centre of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 1,170 individuals were executed in Iran in 2024. Among them, six people were executed in public, and the executed also included 38 women and 9 juvenile offenders.
