Breathing in Confinement – The death sentences of at least two prisoners who had been arrested on charges related to “drug offences” and sentenced to death were carried out in Ghezel Hesar Prison.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, on the morning of Tuesday, 16 September 2025, two prisoners were hanged in Ghezel Hesar Prison. The identities of these prisoners, “Mansour Avakhtizadeh and Akbar Emami,” have been confirmed by Breathing in Confinement.

Mansour Avakhtizadeh, son of Torab, from the village of Qasi Chah in Kuhdasht, and Akbar Emami, from Nurabad, had previously been arrested on charges related to “drug offences” and sentenced to death. The sentences were carried out at dawn on Tuesday, 16 September 2025, in Ghezel Hesar Prison.

Annual Report on Executions in Iran

According to the annual report by the Statistics Centre of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 1,170 individuals were executed in Iran in 2024. Among them, six people were executed in public, and the executed also included 38 women and 9 juvenile offenders.
