Breathing in Confinement: Ehsan Khodadadi, a political prisoner held in Tabriz Prison, has been sentenced to death on charges of “spreading corruption on earth” (efsad-e fel-arz).

According to reporters of Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, Branch One of the Revolutionary Court of Tabriz has sentenced Ehsan Khodadadi, a resident of Malekan County, to capital punishment on charges of “spreading corruption on earth.” The verdict was formally communicated to him in Tabriz Prison on Monday, 15 June.

Ehsan Khodadadi, from the village of Yuzbashkandi in Malekan County, was arrested by security forces on 7 June 2025. According to information received, he was subjected to prolonged interrogations during his detention and faced pressure and mistreatment aimed at extracting forced confessions.

Reports indicate that the death sentence issued by the Revolutionary Court was based on these confessions, a matter that raises serious concerns and objections under legal principles and fair trial standards, including the prohibition of obtaining confessions through coercion.
