Prisoner Executed in Tabriz Prison

Breathing in Confinement, Saturday, 18 July 2026: The death sentence of at least one prisoner who had previously been arrested on drug-related charges and sentenced to death was carried out in Tabriz Prison.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, a prisoner was hanged in Tabriz Prison in the early hours of Tuesday, 24 July. The prisoner has been identified by Breathing in Confinement as Salman Kakeh Khani.
According to the report, Salman Kakeh Khani, a father of one from the village of Qaplantou in Saqqez County, was arrested three years ago on drug-related charges and sentenced to death. His death sentence was carried out at dawn on Tuesday, 24 July 2026, in Tabriz Prison.

Annual report on executions in Iran
According to the annual report of the Statistical Centre of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, between March 2025 and March 2026, at least 2,616 individuals were executed in Iran. Of these, 12 executions were carried out in public. The executed individuals included 67 women and 8 juvenile offenders.
